The Office of Sheriff in Georgia is an important constitutional office with historic roots that predate the discovery of America. If you click on "History of the Office of Sheriff" you can read a brief summary of the origins and evolution of this respected office.
Henry County was created in 1821 and the first Sheriff was selected in 1822. Sheriff James R. Fletcher was the first of 28 Sheriffs to serve Henry County. Many served multiple terms while some served for a single term. Although we have some history on many of our previous Sheriffs we are always interested in learning more about the upstanding servants of law and order listed below. If you have verified facts you would like added for any of these lawmen contact Lt. Jack Oakman by Email or at 770-288-7034.
