The Sheriff sponsors a number of annual events for the youth of Henry County with the help of the Community Relations Unit we are successful providing the following programs:

  • Shop with a Deputy - This  program was implemented to provide toys for 50 or so Henry County children who may not have had a Christmas without this program.  This program also identifies some families in severe need and provides them with a Christmas dinner.
  • Sheriff's Youth Fishing Tournament - This activity provides positive contact between the youth and Sheriff's Deputies.  The children selected have had some negative experiences with law enforcement due to family situations.  This opportunity provides a more relaxed one-on-one interaction between Deputies and these children.   The hope is to bridge the gap between the negative experiences and the real people behind the badge.
  • "On Track for Success" - Introduced at the Labor Day NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2010, this program is administrated by the Henry County Sheriff's Office and co-sponsored with Toyota of McDonough.   Toyota's generous contribution allows two students from each Henry County Middle School to spend the entire evening at the Sprint Cup Series race.  The children are selected by each school based on criteria established by the Sheriff's Office and Toyota of McDonough.
  • Sheriff's Youth Summer Camp -  Introduced in 2010, this program is intended for children from all backgrounds between the ages of 12 through 14.  This 4 day long activity packed program runs from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday.  Topics include a variety of fun indoor and outdoor activities, but are also packed with safety and security educational based programs.  The purpose is so that when these children are away from home and are faced with difficult decisions in their lives they will know they can reach out to law enforcement for help or guidance.  Applications will be made available up to one month before the start of Summer Camp and will be accepted in the order they are received.  For application, Click here.
  • Honorary Sheriff For A Day - In this program sixth grade students compete for the distinction of being an Honorary Sheriff of Henry County for a Day.  The competition is held at all Henry County Middle Schools and one winning student is selected from each school.  Students are asked to write an essay on what they would do if they were the Sheriff to make Henry County a better, safer place to live.  All eleven winners meet with Sheriff Keith McBrayer who presents them with a certificate, a special identification card and other items to help them mark the occasion.  Winners then spend the day with Deputies and tour the 911 center, both divisions of the Sheriff's Office, and the Courts.
